![]() While Houston has been holding down the southern reign in Hip-Hop with the Mike Jones, Paul Wall's, Chamillionaires, not too far away in another city of Texas someone else is ready to put their city on the map. Repping the city of Dallas is Texas newcomer Big Tuck. In this exclusive HHNLive.com interview Big Tuck gives up the raw details on the hood in South Dallas, sleeping in his car while striving to make it and his upcoming album "The Absolute Truth" dropping under Universal. Q: With you being a new artist what are you bringing to the game? BT: Man I'm about to bring an energetic and super crunk ass sound. I'm about to bring something different than niggas see and know. Q: No doubt! Why do you feel you have to bring something different? BT: Shit I'm just bringing the absolute truth, that's my style and that's what I do. I make good music that people have to listen to. Q: Now with H-Town getting a lot of shine last year how does it feel to be representing Dallas? BT: Oh shit, it is lovely. H -Town did they thing and now it's Dallas time. I'm not saying H-Town's shine is about to stop, but like I said it's a brand new era. It's a Dallas movement and it's going down for real. Q: What do you like most about representing Dallas? BT: Shit I love Dallas period. I love representing everything, anything that has a Dallas stamp on it. I'm representing it till the day I roll. Q: Tell me about your hood South Dallas, what was it like growing up? BT: It was like all hoods with the pimps, gangsters, hoes and old folks. If you were not from around there it's bad, but if you were from around there you love it, it's south Dallas the real hood. Q: [Laughs], I see you repping the hood crazy! BT: Yeah. Q: What's good with this group Dirty South Rydaz? BT: Yeah Dirty South Rydaz consists of six people. It's me, Tum Tum, Fat B, Lil Ronny, Addiction and Double T. What makes us so different is that everybody has their own kind of sound and swagger. Q: What do you like most about working with them as a group? BT: We're like family, we do everything together and we just click real good. It's a click and actually it's more than a click it's a family. Q: I read that you went to the University of Arkansas too on a music scholarship, so tell me about that? BT: Yeah the University of Arkansas it was straight, it was different because it was country as hell. A nigga just had to get used to that whole country environment, but it was straight. I learned a lot of shit and I actually learned to communicate with other people. I learned what's going on with other parts of the country like Chicago, Detroit, Memphis and it was real different. Q: College is one of the best experiences in your life! BT: Yeah definitely, I think everybody should go to college. Everybody think you should just study, but it's so different from high school. You get to go there and be yourself while learning who you really are and how to survive. Everybody needs to go to college at least one time. Q: Right, I'm in college right now myself. BT: I hear you, where you go to school at? Q: I'm at North Carolina A&T State University. BT: Oh okay, ya'll got a bad-ass marching band out there too! Q: Yeah, we got some bad women too! BT: I already know [laughs]. Q: [Laughs], from what I read after graduation things got tough, can you speak on that? BT: You know it's like everybody got their own little struggle they have to overcome. Me I had to stay in my car a little while trying to get back on my feet. Everybody got they own little struggle they went through, I stayed in my car for about a year and did what I could to make it. Pretty much when I struggled it wasn't no progress, progress was part of my career. Q: Well that's part of life you know it's ups and downs. BT: Hell yeah and that's real. Q: What's good with this T-Town music? BT: T-Town music actually started as a record store. That's how we got started, we was actually buying our music from George Lopez who is the owner of T-Town music. George Lopez was the guy pushing all the Slim Thugs, Swishahouse, Paul Wall's, Chamillionaire's and all that stuff in Houston. He was just like fuck it and was like I mine as well fish in my own pool. That was us DSR's and he came to a decision that he wanted to start his own thing so we were the ones that stuck out in his head. Q: How did ya'll end-up inking a deal with Universal? BT: We met Universal from just being on the grind. We were underground moving like 350,000 units and we hit every surrounding city. We hit every gas station, car wash, and whatever we could get to. We were going city to city and state to state so it paid off. Universal just came over with a joint venture with an offer we couldn't deny. Q: Ya'll been on the grind and I respect that! BT: Yeah "No grind, no shine" just like Mike Jones said and that's real. Q: "You don't grind, you don't shine" that's my motto! BT: Yeah, that's real talk. Q: What makes Big Tuck different from other artists? BT: I would say I'm a cool down to earth person and I kind of throw that into my music as well, so it makes me different from everybody else. My punchlines are different and just everything I do is different. Every time you hear me it's gonna be something you didn't hear before. Q: What makes your style different from other artists in Texas? BT: Because they don't live the way I live. I rap real life music and everything I rap about is what I have done, what I did or I am about to do. That's what makes me stand-out from everybody else, because I make real life music. Q: When are fans going to get a new album? BT: December 12th "The Absolute Truth" will be in stores and it's going down. Q: Why you name it "The Absolute Truth", because you speak that real stuff? BT: I speak that real shit and my style is undeniable. I feel it's the absolute truth, like I said stuff I talk about and speak on is the absolute truth. Q: You have a lead single for the album right now? BT: Yeah I have a song called "Ain't no Mistaken" with me and Erykah Badu, the song is hot. Q: How you get up with Erykah Badu? BT: We from the same hood, she from the same little dirty town I'm from. We kind of linked together, vibed together and I always wanted to work with Badu. I finally got the opportunity and took it so it went down. Q: Big Tuck took it and ran with it [laughs]. BT: Took it and ran with it hard. Q: No doubt, you ran full-speed too! BT: I'm telling you, that's the name of the game. Q: Tell me about this single "Tussle" how you come up with the concept of that song? BT: Tussle is just something we do down here in the clubs of Dallas. Dallas is a rowdy city, so I just made a song on the lifestyle of the clubs in Dallas. Q: Everyday my man is hustling! BT: Real talk. Q: Anything to say to the readers of and where fans can look up Big Tuck? BT: Yeah you can go ahead and check me out on I can also be hit up on Stay in touch with me and look out for the album "The Absolute Truth", because I'm on the grind.
