Like battle hardened soldiers, G-Unit seems the best when they are in battle. General 50 Cent is a mastermind of controlling the heat and keeping the beef fresh in people’s minds. Hate it or love it, it has kept us talking about them even after a relatively quiet 2007, whose high point was CURTIS.

As such, their latest offering, T.O.S. (G-Unit), probably has more press based on the conflicts and beef than the actual music. Fans expecting the same as their first commercial outing, Beg For Mercy, may find themselves a bit out of sorts. However, those who’ve enjoyed the recent tactical barrages of Whoo Kid tapes will find themselves at home within T.O.S.’s musical trenches.

The opener, “Straight Out of Southside” pays homage to N.W.A’s original gangster posse cut “Straight out of Compton” with each member giving their toughest introductions to their personas. Banks takes the cake with harsh lines like “F*** the police with an HIV carrier / No Vaseline and an M-16”. If you need another reason to realize that Banks is the lyrical sharpshooter within the clique, look no further than “T.O.S.”, where Banks delivers potent bar after bar with deadly accuracy.

“No Days Off” features elements that made G-Unit famous in the first place. The gloomy harp and tapping bass resembling rain creates a terrific drop for a sinister track. Also the smoothly produced “Piano Man” catches the entire Unit dropping potent verses. Fan Favorite “Rider Pt. 2” made the album, featuring 50 on a synthesizer and some now ironic lyrics from Buck like “ If 50 ever dropped me, I still wouldn’t sign:”

This isn’t to say this disc is all grit grime and good times. There are two songs (“The Way She Do It,” “Kitty Kat”) are just down right awful. You can tell that 50 and company are trying to recreate a "Wanna Get to Know You," but the magic just seems to be missing in action.

By the time “ Money Make The World Go Round” delivered by sergeant at arms Tony Yayo finishes the disc, you have an idea of what they have been building towards with the mixtape push and makeover they experienced this year, shedding some of their commercial feel and replacing it with more hardcore sound.

Is the mission accomplished? Not by any means, as some of the forgetful tracks (“Close To Me”) on this album makes their flaws that much more visible. However, Terminate On Sight at its best, creates the sound their hardcore fans felt their individual albums were missing. While it does not win the war, it’s at least a tactical victory.

I don't get these reviews. They mention a bunch of good songs but then give low ass ratings

thats a fucked up review the reviewer seems very critical -

one person tell me honestly who thought "close to me" was a rubbish joint?.. you're gonna find it hard.. that shit is a club banger also got some sick verses all three tore that joint up...

fuck it people have their own opinions or whatever - but that review seems biased.. T.O.S is solid - i can agree it doesn't have Beg For Mercy feel to it.. but the difference between both albums isn't so easily justified - both albums are hot in their own ways.. Beg for Mercy introductory classic.. T.O.S consistently classic..

6.5 isnt even a low rating. You people are just so quick to throw around 9 and 10 scores all the damn time for anything thats even remotely listenable.

The album is worthy of a 6-7. Its a good solid album but its far from being anything special, there are some mis-steps and some standouts.

i would have given it 7.5, the first half imo is really good...why ppl hating on close to me, that song is ill

the second half is all over the place, they always feel obligated to make shitty songs like kitty kat and i like the way she do it...it picks up again at the end but it couldve used 1 more song, like a hate it or love it...or many men type track to seal it off

i just got done listening to T.O.S and i have to give it a 6 also. The choice of beats is iffy. yayo verses are ass...50 is just decent....if banks wasnt on this album it would be a disaster....man i am very very dissapointed in this album. banks sauid they had something to prove and it just didnt deliver.....mayb its because ive only heard it once and it might grow on me but firts impressions of it is not good. nothing like the mixtapes at all....

-.1 for yayo verse on piano man me some one should have told him to redo that without the sound efects lol
- .5 for kity kat was a wast of beat chorus annoying yayo did diliver a hot verse but beat is annoying
-1 point for having the same beat as in sabrina baby boy...with all the money fif has he cant buy a new beat ? come on fif stop being cheap to make money u need money
-.5 the track T.O.S was below avarage at points if ur gonna have a track that is the same name as ur album better have no flaws man

but other than that everything was on point to me man just had to skip 2 or three tracks
good album better than carter 3 to me

na yo i was thinking thee same thing but on a good day itsz a 7 itsz not disappointing 50 was trying to let banks n yayo shinn n thats good that prove 50 isnt selfish when it comes to spotlights 50 sharing it i think itsz a good album the album it will grow on u
