I Need Mine $$
Artist: Lil' Flip Title: I Need Mine $$ Rating:2 stars Reviewed by: Felipe Delerme xml Following the break-out success of 2004's You Gotta Feel Me, it has been a rough couple of years for Lil Flip. You Gotta Feel Me was a smash, its Pac-Man sampling "Game Over" tearing down clubs and setting a ringtone sales record, and its syrupy follow-up, "Sunshine" serenading ghetto-girls across the nation. Shortly thereafter, what was never confirmed as more than hearsay led to a dedicated campaign from one of rap's fastest rising stars to end Flip's career. In addition, gaming company Namco decided to sue for unauthorized use of the Pac-Man sample. Finally, amidst a drawn out attempt to leave his former label Sony, his completed album was leaked to the internet. Cooking up an additional 21 tracks for the now 37-track double disc, I Need Mine $$ (Warner Bros/Asylum), Flip attempts to reclaim props that were once rightfully his. From the beginning, I Need Mine $$ is tragically mislead. From outrageous boasts to unconvincing regret, Flip sounds like a young rapper trying to find his identity as opposed to the industry veteran with two platinum-plus albums to his credit. The lead single, the Lyfe-assisted "Ghetto Mindstate," is a save-the-hood lament far more empty observation than thoughtful inspiration. The crusade continues with "I Just Wanna Tell You," and "Hall of Fame Graveyard," both of which lack the authenticity of older Flip advisories like Underground Legend's "I Shoulda Listened." When not donning a cape, he details his favorite vices including marijuana ("Addicted"), drinking ("White Cup"), and selling drugs ("Block Money"). And although interchangeable, Flip is most at home on self-congratulatory confetti storms like "I Get Money," and "I'm A Baller." Late in the first disc Flip remarks that like Jay-Z, he too, does not actually pen his rhymes. Where for most rappers this is a testament to an advanced technical rhyming ability, in the case of Flip it is most certainly believable, if not assumed. Flip is consistently outshined by guests the likes of Rick Ross, MJG and Chamillionaire, whose appearances easily become the saving grace of their songs. Houston and Texas on the whole owe much to Lil Flip for opening industry doors previously shut to the Lone Star State. Titling his album, I Need Mine $$, it's apparent that Flip agrees. Unfortunately, the album itself doesn't help his case any. Source-allhiphop

T.I. didn't ruin shit. Sony Records ruined Flip if u knew your facts. This album is tight for any music fan. THere are at least a couple songs on there for everyone, a very well-rounded album. Plus he had to use tracks from his previous one that got leaked by SONY RECORDS after he bought out of his contract. They did him dirty but he still came back with a solid CD and with barely no promotion.
