Buck the World

The track listing for Buck the World, the newest release from G-Unit superstar Young Buck, is laughable. Songs like "Buss Yo' Head," "Puff Puff Pass" and "Money Good" are the clich�d gangsta-rap titles that have helped unravel the artistic credibility rap deserves. To its credit, Buck the World boasts the creative beats of brilliant producers - Dr. Dre, Pollow Da Don and Jazze Pha, among others - but lacks the relevant, sociocultural lyrics that rap needs from its cr�me de la cr�me to survive.

Each track on Buck the World is club-hoppin' catchy, albeit extremely dark. Most songs feature innately pleasant instruments - soprano-tuned horns, a piano - set against typical gangsta, on-the-street drum patterns, making each track more dire than the last.

So although prime production permeates most the record, listeners are left hoping tracks 16 and 17 are a bit more lighthearted.

Lyrically, Young Buck lacks contextual inspiration, as evidenced by the aforementioned song titles - one can only say so much about hustlin', pimpin' and killin' that hasn't already been said. In fact, this void of originality detracts from his obvious mastery over word weaving.

With verses like, "When the middle finger n-----s / hits your block / like insurgents / there's no deterrents / from us cleaning your clock / like detergent," from "Say it to My Face," the G-Unit young'n proves he can rhyme with the best of them. But even this unparalleled wordplay won't make up for the overused subjects.

Buck the World typifies gangsta-rap - an unfortunate offshoot of the rap genre that relies on inventive beat production in an attempt to hide the lack of socially conscious lyrics.

he is right though, buck the world was good dont get me wrong but aside from a few tracks its jus senseless babble with no meaning, its uninspiring, like everyother rapper out there, he has nothin really to say, hes acting like a rebel, which is basically whut gangsta rap is about, but hes not rebeling against anything, he is doign senseless killing and all that, unlike the true good rappers, immortal technique, tu pac, eminem, they all have a reason, they fight for a cause, thats why rap is slowly dying..
