Buck The World
Young Buck G-Unit/Interscope Posted: 03/19/2007 by: Aaron Frank 4/5 Kicks - Kick It! Young Buck's sophomore solo LP, Buck the World, is one of the most highly anticipated albums of 2007 and with good reason. After his first album, Straight Outta Ca$hville, went double platinum, Buck hit the mixtape circuit hard collaborating with numerous DJs like Drama and Whoo Kid, and building an incredible buzz for his second release. Originally scheduled for an October release, Buck the World was pushed back a number of times in order to supplement that buzz, but also to get the right formula together for this highly-anticipated album, so as to not disappoint the loyal G-Unit following. There's no question that Buck stands out from the rest of the G-Unit camp lyrically, but Buck the World is an album that will make that significant distinction clear to the average listener. Buck the World starts off with "Push Em Back," a banging street song, where Buck tells all of the haters and groupies to just get out of his way, because he's not going to stop for anyone. The track almost seems like a metaphor for his progression over the years or for where he hopes to take things in the future. However, it can also be viewed as just another simple track, defining his cockiness and superiority over those who surround him. "Say It To My Face" keeps the flow of this album in tact, combining some hard bass and stuttering snares, with all-star performances from Southern legends, Bun B and 8Ball & MJG. The topic of this track is pretty self-explanatory, but Buck makes it clear where he says "If you don't like me, say it to my face. Just because I caught a case, don't mean you can't be erased." While some of the cliché gangsta topics get too much attention, Buck does manage to balance them with some really emotional topics that reveal his sensitivity behind the thug image. "Slow Ya Roll" featuring Chester Bennington is probably the most gut-wrenching track on the album, where Buck contemplates the tragic demise of some of his closest friends and relatives. This track really surprised me, not because of the horrific things that he discusses, but mostly because of the detail with which he uses to tell these stories. Everybody knows that it can be difficult to discuss the death of a family member or close friend, but Buck manages to make this in to more of a positive message to the people who experience these types of situations on a daily basis. The title track with Lyfe Jennings is another great song on this album, where Young Buck gets in to discussing some more personal issues. Lyfe provides an incredible hook and Jake One's production on this track is excellent as well, but the great part about this song is how Buck juxtaposes his life on the streets with the image of a perfect father, which his baby's mama so desperately wants. The harsh reality portrayed in Buck's lyrics can be explained at beginning of the track where Buck reflects, "Damn. Look at what I call my life / A glock nine and an eightball of white." There's no question that Buck the World is a great album, but I feel like more people can actually relate to these emotional tracks like "Buck the World" and "Slow Ya Roll." "I Ain't Fuckin With U" featuring Snoop Dogg and Trick Daddy and "Pocket Full of Paper" featuring Young Jeezy are a couple of the better street-oriented tracks on this album, but depth and creativity is lacking on others like "Buss Yo Head." The production on this album is great, bringing together big names like Lil Jon, Dr. Dre, Hi-Tek, and Jazze Pha, but some of the tracks could use more substance. I think Young Buck has the potential to be one of best gangsta rappers out there, but he really needs to break the mold and keep trying different things to set himself apart. Overall, this is a great album, and I think the loyal G-Unit fans that I previously mentioned will undoubtedly be pleased, but I'm not sure that this is the classic album that rap music fans were looking to Young Buck for. |

Album pretty dope, sum songs sound like mixtape tracks though. Alot of gangsta shit to bump to, that always makes a good album. Buss yo head and Lose my Mind are really dope.
