50 Cent Says He Delayed Before I Self Destruct So He Could Release More Singles
'I'm just looking for the opportunity to present more of my material,' he tells MTV News.

NEW YORK — No big conspiracy here: 50 Cent said he decided to delay the release of his Before I Self Destruct album from December 16 until next year because he needed more setup time.

"I'm trying to leave the same way I came in," he said Sunday night during "Total Finale Live." "February 4 [2003], Get Rich or Die Tryin' came out. I drop this album February 3. The time frame. It used to take six to eight weeks for us to position a hip-hop record. Now, it's taking 12 to 14 weeks.

"Just the positioning," he continued. "I'm not comfortable where I'm at right now. My song 'Get Up' is performing great. I'm happy with 'Get Up.' It moved faster than 'I Get Money' at radio. But I'm just looking for the opportunity to present more of my material [prior to the album's release]. It's not the strongest effort on my album; it's just a great start for me."

The video for "Get Up" is out now. Besides paying homage to the Will Smith blockbuster "I Am Legend," Fif also comes full circle with a nod to his own "In Da Club" video. With the release of Before I Self Destruct, he will fulfill his contractual obligation to Shady/Aftermath and Interscope Records for new recordings. A greatest-hits collection will follow if he does not ink a new contract with Interscope.

"We may put out a greatest-hits record then, [when] we start the renegotiations," he said of his talks with Interscope.

Although he's publicly expressed disdain for the way Interscope and its chair, Jimmy Iovine, have handled projects such as Curtis and the G-Unit's T.O.S., Fif did tell us he'll let bygones be bygones for the right price.

"I think all artists have things they can point to that have been done wrong at different points in their career," he said. "It's cool. I'll get over it. They can just pay me."

I dont understand why he doesnt just make or drop a monster if he wants to go out the way he did.. cant he tell the differnce between in da club..and songs like get up ? or a differnce between songs in get rich..and his last 2 cds ?

lol all he has to do is do what he did in 2004.. just go do it wtf.. ?

lol thats not what i Mean, I dont mean its easy for me, what I mean is..it should be easy for 50 cent.. and easy isnt even a good word for this, what I mean is.. singles like I get money, and get up..even candy shop..are VERY differnt then singles like in da club, pimp, and even wanksta..

so what im saying is, he needs something like that, something thats GOOD, a good song with a insane beat.. get up is another single just like his last couple ones.. in da club if you actually listen, its not all bs in it, you could tell that was going to blow up..

you could tell Chamillionaires ridin dirty was going to blow up.. get up is good but if he wants to go out like he came in, hes going to need that in da club type song..

I dunno, I liked The Massacre a lot too though to be honest, but Curtis was a let-down. I'm not a big fan of Get Up, it reminds me of a Straight To Tha Bank/Candy Shop type single. Candy shop was a bad single for the massacre but the rest of the album made up for it. With Curtis, I get money was an awesome single but the rest of the album was kind of lacking. I'm hoping this album will be more like The Massacre (if its not like get rich or die tryin I mean). If it's anything like Curtis, then this will be a disappointing goodbye to the game for 50.

he even said it will be more street and dirty..not for the kids..as tupac said for all eyez on me lol, this time, I trust 50 cent, we all know and so does he, he needs to go back to GRODT days if he wants to sell and go out like he came in..

hes a smart guy no matter how you feel about his music.. I think his new album will have a couple curtis type tracks..but 75% or more of it being Get rich or die trying style with 2-3 pop single songs..
