09/29/07 - Dirty South: Screw Soundscan, Chamillionaire Wins

Aight guys I've been crazy busy with school (still am) but I finally found time to do a piece on Cham.

Chamillionaire's sophomore album Ultimate Victory was released on September 18th, one wek after the epic 50/Kanye showdown. Could a rapper have a worst release date than a week after that? Universal screwed up. The first week sales were dissapointing to say the least, around 79,000. Even less than the first week of Sound of Revenge which did 130,000 with far less press coverage.

My guess is that a big part of the low sales, besides the obvious overlook because of Ye and Fif, is the no cursing. I personally couldn't care less, if Cham hadn't said he wasn't cursing I'm sure hardly anyone would have even noticed. But because he did you get the suburban kids who want to act hard hating. They want non-stop pistol talk so they can go around in their baggy G-Unit clothes screaming that shit out. There was so much hate on Cham because of this, people who are so closed-minded they can't listen to the music and appreaciate for what it is just because he doesn't say 'fuck.'

The album itself is amazing. Both Morning and Evening News are incredible and I don't see how cursing could have somehow made it better, people won't give it a chance and it's sad. I Think I Love You is a great story track and Rocky Road is a phenomenal deep joint. The Ultimate Victory outro is a perfect closer.

I love the album and he deserves to sell, but I don't see him going platinum unless he has 2 smash hits like Ridin which I doubt is going to happen. But platinum or not Cham delivered a great album, quit hating over the no cursing and appreaciate the music for what it is. Chamilitary Mayne!

Hot album. And I was thinking the same thing, "cursing or not, who cares". Cursing doesn't make it better, there are other words that can fill in that gap. He's one of the most entertaining rappers I know with a good subject matter.

2 me that was THE best album of 07 Cham has talent man this dude can rap without cursing and his flow is unbelievable i hope he makes another hot video an his sales can boost

Foreal this my favorite CD this year, I heard "Industry Groupie" da new single and that one go hard but I believe "We Breakin Up" could put ol' boi back in the game for chart success like "Ridin" did

He need a song to reach dummies and lil girls (no disrespect but lil girls buy CDs and people need simple songs) and that song supertight plus simple

This CD is too smart for average folk but all u need is a single to hook them in

first, propz to the topic starter. ive been a fan of cham for a while now. of course most of the people ive hung around wit or chatted wit say his old flows, like pre-sound of revenge is way better. and of course i think the same. he is a genius. and universal did do a fucked up job on the release date. this cd is by far one of the best if not the best rap cd of '07. i mean it has 19 tracks, plus 2 bonus tracks. not alot of rappers put out a bunch of tracks, and most or all of the tracks are hot. i personally bought the cd from best buy, yea i downloaded it a week earlier from here, but there is only a few artist that i will buy there cd when it drops for artist support. Ludacris, Chamillionaire, Eminem, and Jay-Z. and the cd is too smart if u jus plain dumb. its cuz most of the rappers have so many tracks bout: the club, rims, whips, chains, cribs, grillz, etc. that the average "fan" doesnt listen to the actual lyrics to it. most of them songs is garbage and dont make sense. if cham came out 7-8 years ago when he was rapping about the same exact thing, he woulda went double platinum. cuz them songs he did by himself and wit paul wall, were 10 times better than these songs that come out today that rap about the same shit. and to end this, i can barely even tell the difference that cham doesnt curse cuz the main word he did use was "nigga".

The album is by far the best album this year...If there were more albums like this one, then Hip Hop would't be dead...And of course Universal did the most dumb thing releasing Cham's album a week after Fif's & Ye's albums dropped, if it would have been released in October, then, maybe it would have sold more...

yea for real man, so many people just listen to the beat or the hook and dont understand shit about the actual song, i keep hearing so many people talk about how hot industry groupie is and they think its about an actual girl, goes to show most people are too dumb to get it, sad.

^^^ and this is to the guy with "curtis" in his avy. and he talkin bout the "worst album". yea, and we all kno how great that cd was. numbers really dont mean the album is great. jus means the number of people who bought it.

best cd of 07 no doubt and i actually like the fact he didnt curse its not noticeable he still makes dope shit and i think it's harder to make shit hot if u dont curse or dont say nigga i mean t.i. says nigga in almost every line plus his shit is hot it isnt boring... raw beats dope lyrics what else could u ask for?

i never said TI shit was good but he has a few bumpin songs on each cd at least there were maybe 1 on UV and there were no raw beats on UV wtf r u smoking
