Help Burning Dvd's

Ok, i've been having problems for a while trying to burn dvds. Now basically what i have problems with, is getting a video that i've downloaded thru the internet and burning it to a dvd. Although, i believe i am able to make a backup of a dvd, that i've purchased. I was able to burn dvd's probably a year or two ago using Nero 7, tho from time to time i would have problems. Now i cant burn one at all. I've tried reinstalling Nero, i tried downloading a different Nero from this website, my uncle gave me his Nero that he purchased, and nothing will help. I've tried using dvd fab platinum 4, and one other but i cant remember the name of it. I've asked around and people tell me, USE NERO, USE NERO... others say roxio, dvd fab, and some odd ones i've never heard of. I'm thinking about trying roxio but i dont want to get frustrated if it doesnt work. Now, i am able to burn cds, mp3's, and data disk's using Musicmatch Jukebox and Nero, but the last time i burned a CD with Nero, was 1-2 years ago, so im not sure if it will still burn the cd's and so forth. When i try to burn a dvd with Nero, it does it's process when it compiles everything together, but when it gets to the point where its gonna start writing to the disk, it comes up with an error. I dont have the error and cant get it anymore cuz i completely removed Nero from my pc, but when i did have it and googled it, i noticed it was a pretty common error that alot of people would get or had gotten before. I've researched all over the web, asked all types of people and still CANT burn dvd's!!! What do you guys recommend?

Details on what i have:

Windows XP SP2
RAM = 1 GB
HP DVD Writer 840d USB Device
BLANK Memorex DVD-R's & DVD+R's
ANYDVD
CLONEDVD

I use ConvertXtoDVD for burning DVD's off the internet to discs. I use either Memorex discs or Verbatim discs and have had no problem with this software. It even has menus to create a better looking DVD format. I can get you the software if you want to try it, just let me know.

Yea I also use ConvertXtoDVD to burn DVD's and in my opinion its the best converter/burner that I've used so far only takes about a hour to encode a full length movie then you can choose whether you want it to burn right after encoding and on top of this lets you burn 2 movies onto 1 disc I had burned the Fast & Furious 4 & Bloody Valentine onto 1 disc with no problems, Great program.

Now if you are still having problems with the burning I suggest you might want to lower the speed of the burning, Maybe you are trying to burn the discs at a high speed or you might want to upgrade the firmware of your DVD burner, I was having the same problem you was having until I upgraded my firmware to the DVD burner.

i appreciate the info, i've tried lowering it all the way down to 2x speed with the other software i've used, and i tried getting a firmware update from HP but they said there was none, i havent tried this new software yet, but it looks like its getting some very good feedback from other people, so hopefully it works

by any chance does anyone have a key to get the full version, is a key even needed, or will the demo version do everything i need and be unlimited to me????

And you might want to google firmware updates for your burner because I think thats pretty weird that they dont have an upgrade for it, If I was you google it yourself and dont depend on those people

thanks, i already tried using yahoo and google, i went to other forums and they couldnt provide me any updates either, thats when i went directly thru HP, i bought another dvd burner not too long ago, still in the box, i might just try using that one
