Need help DVD RW drive wont burn disk...

i dont know whats going on its been working fine and it just starting messing up it will read the blank disk sometimes and when i go to burn it it will not burn it would just mess the cd up..when i go to my computer on the total size and free space it has nothing beside the dvd driver where it use to have some number like on the stuff above it..will rep anyone who can help

to burn cds i use WMP and Roxi but its like my drives not installed and i dont really know what to do

You could very well just have a burned-out drive. You may have to replace it, who knows? But I think you should try to burn something using Nero before you buy a new drive. There's lot of different scenarios - you could have a virus that infected it, something is stuck in it, etc.

That shit used to happen to me too, Sometimes its the disc thats corrupted. This is what I did, open up your PC (LOL I hope your not lazy and tell me you dont feel like opening it, Some people do that but its for the better) and make sure the IDE cables are properly plugged into the DVD drive and wipe off any dust inside the pc, motherboard etc....Then start up the pc again and put in CD (Music) and see if it reads it now if it does read it try putting in a DVD movie(You want the laser to start recognizing)Now if none of that works reply back here and I'll tell you to try something else and if those dont work then you need a new DVD drive but try that first...These are just the basic steps before I can continue on with your problem

ok i looked at it everything looked fine..so i put in a blank cd it read the cd but when i tryed to burn with roxi it saids no driver detected...

Hmmm ok...Well if it said no driver detected then its the drive, I am not too familiar with roxi I usually use nero, But are there options in roxi that says something with "Drivers".

Besides that do this:

Go to Control Panel, Then click on the "System" icon, Then go to the "Hardware Tab", Then click on "Device Manager", Then you should see IDE ATA/ATAPI contollers or something like that, Double click on that and you should see Primary IDE Channel, Secondary Channel etc....Now right click on Primary IDE and go to the "Advanced Settings" tab, You should see "Transfer Mode" from there select the option "DMA if Available". Do this for Primary and for Secondary if you have, Restart the pc and try burning, If that doesnt work then I think its that burning program you have. If all this fails then we'll try another solution

there were like 4 channels i didnt see the Primary IDE Channel 4 IDE Channels and Intel(R)ICH9 2 port Serial ATA Storage Controller 2 - 2926,
Intel(R)ICH9 4 port Serial ATA Storage Controller 1 - 2920 everything seem to be set right...i went in the burner program and it said no drive so i dont know imma call tommorow and see what they can do to help

So on all 4 channels were the settings set to "DMA If Available"? If so then the driver should be working good, Maybe you need to upgrade the driver firmware.

What type of DVD burner you have so I can look up some firmware drivers for you, I want to help you out because I know how frustrating it is going thru this as I went thru this as well.

Now if you dont mind sending me a screenshot of Roxi or Roxio I dunno the name of that program but can you send me or post a screenshot of the options at least if not then I'll try something else. Judging by this it is most likley that you need an updated firmware for it.

Yea then its most likely that you need a driver firmware update just see what type of DVD-RW you have and lets see from there, Thats what was happening to me and when I updated the firmware everything worked like a charm, So lets hope this is the case here with you

that happend to me and i googled it then in the micrsoft page they had a program that fixed it cuz i guess the driver becomes hidden when this happens and that program fixed it. i forgot what it was tho it was a while ago
