How can I make my PC faster?

I feel like my laptop is getting slower everyday. I have a couple of theories on why it is slow, but I could use some help on how to fix it.
1st-too many shit trying to start when turning on laptop(e.g. aim, sonic activation for some reason, and other shit)
2nd-may have a virus in internet explorer, iono, i'm having more problems using ie than firefox
3rd-too much adware/spyware??? not sure what is what but could use help explaining it and fixing it.
4th-for some reason, i don't have too much music or videos to take up space in my pc but for some reason, my shit is full on my c drive.

Can anybody help me go through some processes on how to clean my computer? I'll rep whoever does.

1 - Reformat your comp. but you'll lose errything..
or
2 - upgrade your RAM..
or
3 - Get a new PC...

best thing to do is to defrag your hardrive...

its in your system tools in your start menu

unless u have a virus, if u think u do d/l mcafee & do a spam/virus check and shit.

1. Run a full system virus scan.
2. Run a full system Spyware/Adware scan.
3. Run a Disk Cleaner Program. (Cleans out all the junk files on your PC)
4. Run a Registry Cleaner Program. (Fixes all your registry errors)
5. Run a disk defrag.

also type in msconfig in run then startup tab and click and uncheck the progams that arnet neccesary on startup.. (e.i limewire, msn, aim)

Do what he typed out, And make sure you use a real good anti-virus for scanning, If all else fails then I would suggest you reformat the pc
