So Wale's Attention Deficit tour stopped through Toronto yesterday, and though I was planning to go anyways, my friend luckily knew the manager at the club and got me some free tickets.

I was thinking Wale might be performing without his band because they weren't on the bill, but luckily, that wasn't the case.

I got there midway through the opener, which was pop artist Colin Munroe, who is from Toronto. He's collaborated with a bunch of rappers recently on his latest mixtape, and you might recognize him from:

I'm not really a big fan of dude, but his set was actually pretty decent, and he performed a couple of his songs that I really like ("Cannonball," "I Want Those Flashing Lights").

Wale went on like 30 min later with his go-go band U.C.B., and one other guest vocalist (who I thought would just be another back-up-rapper, but was actually a capable singer as well). His band is extremely dope, they put a new spin on all his stuff so that it transitions well to a live show. Wale ran through some DC-inspired intros before getting into the thick of his set - he performed a bunch of good shit, including mixtape highlights "Back in the Go-Go," "The Artistic Integrity," "W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.," etc. and his new single "Chillin'" (which I'm still not sold on), and closed the set with "Nike Boots." He went on for about 70 minutes and it was a very solid performance, his live show should only get better as his catalog gets wider.

Side-bar: half-way through the show, Wale stops the show to get Drake to text him to verify that he is in the club...that eventually leads into Wale's remix of "Best I Ever Had." No Drake sighting on stage, but I realize near the end of the show that Drake is standing at the side of the stage like 10 feet from me, lol.

P.S. Doesn't that look like a ROC chain Wale has on? He also threw up the ROC to close the set, hmm

I saw him in Chicago... amazing crowd, pretty sure Wale is going to blow up based on the crowd he had there...

show was decent, he brought out the local dude from Kidz in tha Hall, and Chris from Young Gunz... was talking all about the ROC there too, but I thought it was cuz of Chris. Dope set by Wale, but that emo kid that opened for him was incredibly bad, and everyone in the crowd was really uncomfortable. It isn't just that he was an emo singer at a hip hop show, but that he was a terrible singer with really bad lyrics who was latching onto hip hop shows for no apparent reason. Only song that got people going a bit was the Flashing Lights song where he kinda sampled the Kanye beat (which was already a sample... etc)

Good show, but he should really get that emo kid out of the set

@ rock the bells??? i saw him there last year... nevermind, "a few months ago" is too short compared to last summer

word @ IT... when i saw him last year, he was on the "small stage", but he had a large crowd there (prolly because it was before the big stage had started), but alot of people came just before his set n left directly after n headed to their seats for the big stage... he deff gotta buzz n some loyal fans...

it was more than buzz... the set was at a small bar close to my new apartment on the North side of Chicago... I saw GZA there, Yakballz, still have a lot of dope shows coming up, too. When I went to see Wale, there was a line almost around the block an hour before the show started (and that's the openers, not even the real set) White people, black people, asian people, hispanics... hipsters and gangsters... people with sox hats cocked all to the side and people in tight jeans with crazy fucked up hair and shit. Wale has that crossover appeal that's going to give him the credibility and popularity he needs when he actually comes out with an album

yeah, Colin Munroe wasn't even received too well at this one, and it was in his hometown, lol, I still like his joints with Wale and Drake, though
