what type of mic did you get?..........

if you got a regular condenser....your gonna need phantom power and 2 mic cables........one that goes from the mic into phantom power...and another that goes from phantom power into the CPU....

if you got the USB condenser..............meh.....

or u could jus get a mixer that uses Phantom power and run the mixer to ur line in port in ur soundcard

tru tru...or u could jus get an audio interface wit Phantom....I Got A M-Audio Audio Buddy (usually $80-$100) for $35....its reaaall good...its got Gain COntrol and shit like that, 2 Inputs, 2 Outputs....I love it

ok i got a mic with a usb cable attacched to it with a audacity cd to install it for me but the shit tsays u need lame for it to work and it wont work im so pissed off

maybe, even a shity dynamic mic through a blue gears soundcard sounds just as good as any condenser direct to a pc, i tried this a long time ago, the mic counts as 40% of the quality, the capture is 60% , get any decent soundcard,new ones, and you will notice,the mic range makes no difference AT ALL, raw audio might have slight, i prefer dynamic mics anyway,I went through 5 condensers in 1 year, shit breaks way to easy,especially under heat, also with mastering u will still need compression, so even with a slight quality advantage with a condensor, a dynamic will sound the same after edits, greater frequency response means nothing after dynamics and eq, dynamic mics also are resistant to moisture so you don't have to cover them after use or need a nice pop fil to avoid killing it.

top of the line dynamic mics for home studios >>>>>> Condensers.

wtf, lame is just an encoder, what are u having problems with , exporting to mp3? or using audacity in general, if your having that much problems, get a converter, save your audios in wav then convert latter.

ok i read all the previous posts, first of all a $100 mic is still fucken good,these amature fuckers frontin like its shit, any mic over $40 can sound like a $400 mic after edits with,even without the right capture devices,i tried, second of all audacity works with and without lame, lame just gives u the option to save in mp3, also if you cant record, put the settings to 2 channel stereo and select your soundcard/motherboard sound, in the appropiate boxes in the input output.

also usb condensers, the new ones are just as good as powered condensers,frequency response numbers are the fucken same, dedicated source mics are better yes but i doubt 99% of you would notice a difference.

yo its weird the set up worked it says on prefrence to put it on 16 then it says find library and then it pops up you need lame enc dll i have em all and wen i put it in it still doesnt work
