rakim shits on anybody in terms of pure influence in hip hop. all the major artists from the 90's were influenced by him, so all the rappers today who were influenced by the major artists of the 90's also have rakim's influence. you can't compare hardly anyone to rakim in terms of pure influence.

pac, jay-z, nas, wu tang, 50, eminem, among others have all cited rakim as an influence. how can you compare anyone else to that?

Maybe I was a little premature, but I've always heard/seen rappers cite Jay-Z and Rakim as one of their influences, a lot more than I've heard/seen Tupac mentioned. Maybe that's just from the rappers i listen to. . . :(

@ young a, I didn't say Jigga was the most influential. Rakim is, who I voted for. didn't mention Jim Jones either

Pac influences were Rakim Run DMC, etc.... I can't remember who else but Rakim is underrated no doubt but you ask majority of hip hop artists they would say pac influenced them

i would have to compile a list.....and it would be huge...hundreds and hundreds of rappers....if not thousands....

i listen to everything, im not debating that Rakim wuz dope and influenced alot of peeps for the record...i could care less who influenced more peeps i listen to both Pac and Rakim and daddy kane, who is underrated...they all influence me so its whatever my only point wuz that u can ask almost any artist around today and i can tell you almost every one is gonna say pac while i think only bout 75 percent will say rakim...i think its close but i think pac made so many dif types of records thats what sets him apart....that and the quantity of music he released in such a short time.....that inspires damn near everyone to be honest

rakim totally redefined lyricism though. i wouldn't disagree that pac, jay-z, nas, etc. all influenced a lot of today's rappers.. but rakim influenced both the rappers of today and the rappers who influenced those rappers. no one has had more pure influence on emcee-ing (i assume thats what we really mean by in hip hop since its all emcees in the list) than him, regardless of who would get the most "votes."

Kool Moe Dee is actually probably the most influential rapper, without the rappers knowing that he's so influential.
