Everybody is doing their own thing. If you were to have told someone in 2003 that the Diplomats wouldn’t be the same force they were at the time, they’d look at you crazy. Cam’Ron, Juelz, Jimmy, Freekey, and all the other little subsidiaries that built Dipset to a level that most groups weren’t touching. They dominated the mixtape scene with over 20 mixtapes throughout their career. Now, Jimmy will deny he speaks or even spoke to Cam’Ron in the last few years. Everybody has their little subsidiaries still and less about unity and more about them. Just to take a trip down memory lane, DJ Blazita examines the leader of the group, Cam’Ron from his latest to his classics. Killa Cam has always had some hot beats but lately is lacking. “I Hate My Job” is the perfect example of what not to spit on. Also notorious for his wrestling references like on “Cookies & Apple Juice” with the line “I’ll rowdy roddy pipe her” or on “Get Em Daddy Remix” with “I’m hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, bob backland, Paul Akin haha/ who you think they car jackin?” Blazita does a good job of using a hot Cam verse like for “Suck It Or Not” only having the best verse on it but keeping classics like “Come Home With Me” complete. Cam was always known to create something that didn’t/ doesn’t sound like anything out and he did that last year with “Owe Me (Oh No You Didn’t)” which contained a sample from an old commercial. The tape doesn’t contain any of his various diss records throughout the years but does feature one of the best collabo Roc-A-Fella ever had, “Welcome To New York City.” Cam shouldn’t have used the chorus he did on “Shake.” It’s like some weird voice reciting “We the dips so cut the shit/Ma twist ya hips and lick ya lips.” Blazita brings out the best in Cam on this tape. Not necessarily a best of type tape but it showcases a lot of his hits over the years. After listening, it makes you want to go find the whole joints like “Dipset Anthem” or “I Really Mean It.” You can also notice all the things Cam and his crew could get away with saying and still come off as dope like Cam referencing Scooby Snacks. If anymore DJs make Cam tapes they need to listen to this one and take notes on how you do a good one that isn’t like the million others that flood the internet.
